What words best describe the pre-boomers?
Marketers consider us the sandwich or bridge generation and don’t pay much attention to those born between 1930 and 1945, even though there’s an estimated 40 million pre-boomers scattered across this country.
Our parents told us how fortunate we were not to have suffered through the Great Depression and World War II. Those younger than we are tend to look at us as the new old-people without much to contribute but with plenty of time on our hands. I call us blessed since few of us had to fight in any wars or conflicts, but we harvested the seeds sown by the post-war boom more than any other group. Now the question is, how do you think of yourself? Listed below are a few suggestions to help you define our generation.
The pre-boomers are: enlightened, wise, smart, informed, thoughtful, sensible, blessed, discerning, practical, reasonable, realistic, pragmatic, logical, charmed, lucky, fortunate, happy, fantastic, grateful, forgotten, ignored, neglected, pleasant, likeable, silent, invisible, productive. These are just thought starters, let me know what moniker you believe fits us.
We’re not the Greatest Generation or the Me Generation, but we have left our imprint on this nation and the world. And, we’re not finished yet; our contributions can, and will, continue to have an impact on trailing generations. With time, many more people will recognize the importance of our legacies.
So, get your thinking caps on and come up with the one word that most describes the pre-boomers. Your input will help in framing future blogs.

For years, I have called us the “watershed” generation. It is generally the same thing as a bridge or transitional group. We broke with the tradition of our parents and paved the way for the significant systemic changes that came with the boomers.
